A scientific illustration summer seminar set in the idyllic coastal town of Onagawa in the Miyagi prefecture of Japan.
The seminar was designed to teach the importance of scientific illustration in the communication of knowledge for broader audiences. Students learned various examples of scientific illustrations including medical, botanical, zoological, and environmental topics.
The main focus of the workshop was “the art of looking” where students closely examined scientific illustrations. Furthermore, students put this skill into practice through observational sketching exercises of plant life in the surrounding environment of Miyagi-Onagawa, Japan.
